Veterinarian Lee Pickett, VMD, has practiced companion animal medicine, veterinary acupuncture and shelter medicine in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. She writes Ask the Vet, a nationally syndicated weekly veterinary advice column, and magazine articles about pet care. She published two Ask the Vet books on dog care and cat care, and she developed and taught a course on veterinary medicine for pet people.
Dr. Pickett has served on numerous animal-related boards of directors and established a program to provide foster care for pets affected by domestic violence. She volunteers with national, state and local animal rescue organizations, shelters and emergency response teams.
She graduated from Hartwick College and the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, where she was awarded the Mikus Prize for proficiency in the practice of veterinary medicine and upholding the principles of veterinary medical ethics. She is the recipient of additional awards, including the Maxwell Medal from the Dog Writers Association of America and the Dr. A. Wayne Mountan Memorial Media Award from the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association.
